Wike Blames APC Candidate Selection For Gwagwalada Loss

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has attributed the All Progressives Congress (APC) loss in the Gwagwalada area council election to what he described as internal party issues regarding the choice of candidate.

Speaking during a media chat with journalists in Abuja on Tuesday morning, Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, said his position as FCT minister afforded him privileged information pointing to problems within the APC’s selection process.

According to the minister, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) emerged victorious in Gwagwalada not because of any external interference, but as a direct consequence of how the ruling party handled its internal affairs.

“There are things I don’t want to say here, but I know there was a problem with the APC candidate who was selected to run the election,” Wike stated.

The FCT minister stressed that the outcome in Gwagwalada reflects the consequences of poor candidate selection rather than any manipulation of the electoral process.

He further clarified that while his official position granted him access to information on electoral dynamics, his movements during the polls did not influence the final result.
