Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has confirmed the death of the first FCT indigenous head of Civil Service, Mrs Grace Adayilo.
The confirmation came during the minister’s monthly media briefing with selected journalists in Abuja yesterday, where he expressed shock and sadness at the news.
Describing her as a dedicated and invaluable public servant, Wike revealed the high esteem in which he held the late Head of Service, noting he had personally advocated for her to stay on.
“The late FCT Head of Service was very hardworking. I pleaded with President Bola Tinubu to extend her tenure due to her hard work,” he said.
He further expressed his personal regret at the timing of the announcement, stating, “If I had gotten the information on the demise of the FCT Head of Service, I would have put off this media chat.”
As previously reported, Adayilo, the first female and indigenous appointee to the role in the FCT, passed away in the early hours of Monday.
The circumstances surrounding her death have not yet been made public.
The FCT administration is now left to mourn a leader widely recognized as a historic trailblazer and a pillar of its civil service in the FCT.
