Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has listed his administration’s accomplishments over the past 12 months and pledged increased attention to security, transportation, and infrastructural development in 2025.
In a New Year message he signed, Wike thanked residents for cooperating in implementing the administration’s policies and programs.
The minister commended the FCT residents for their commitment to peaceful coexistence and caring for one another over the past year. Their support and understanding have driven the vision for a better FCT.
He acknowledged that while 2024 posed challenges for many, it was also a remarkable year for the FCT, which recorded significant achievements that have laid the foundation for sustained development.
“Among our key achievements over the past 12 months are significant infrastructural development, including the construction of new urban and rural roads, which has dramatically improved connectivity and accessibility for residents.
“Rural road development has significantly enhanced economic activities within our rural communities, creating opportunities and improving livelihoods.
“We prioritised education by rehabilitating several schools, ensuring that our children learn in conducive environments and that future generations are empowered with quality education.
Our efforts to enhance security, which included providing over 100 vehicles to various security agencies and implementing bold and innovative strategies, have yielded positive results. Residents can now sleep peacefully at night, confident in the safety of their neighbourhoods,” he said.
Wike further said that establishing the Mandate Secretariat for Youth Development and other administrative changes implemented during the year have improved efficiency, accountability, and service delivery, strengthening governance and making it more responsive to residents’ needs.
“By fostering a conducive environment for foreign and local investments, the FCT has experienced visible economic growth, particularly impacting rural areas where infrastructural improvements have sparked economic activities and development,” he said.
The minister added that his administration would build on these achievements in the coming year.
“Our focus this year will include continued massive infrastructural development as a key driver of economic growth and improved quality of life.
“Enhancing healthcare, education, and agricultural sectors to ensure that every resident has access to essential services.
“Tackling public transportation challenges through private sector participation will commence in earnest to ease transportation issues and ensure smooth mobility for residents.
“Expanding programs for youth employment and positive engagement to harness the energy and creativity of our young people for the development of the FCT. Exploring tourism potentials and building upon our achievements in the security sector,” he stated.
According to him, sustainable development requires active participation from all residents.
“I urge you to fulfil your civic obligations by paying taxes, dues, and levies as applicable, as these are essential for generating the revenue needed to fund developmental projects.
“Let us remain committed to ensuring that the FCT continues to stand as a true Centre of Unity, upholding the dreams of our founding fathers. This administration remains steadfast in its determination to transform the FCT into one of the best capital territories in the world.
“Together, by supporting His Excellency President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and working in unity and cooperation, we can achieve the collective dream of a thriving and prosperous FCT,” he concluded.
