Wike, Power Minister Resolve Dispute Over Maitama Substation

Residents and businesses in Maitama and several neighbouring districts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) may soon have electricity restored after Abuja Electricity Distribution Plc (AEDC) announced that the dispute that crippled operations at the C2 Maitama Substation had been resolved.

The breakthrough followed high-level intervention by the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, and the minister of Power, Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, whose engagement with relevant stakeholders ended the standoff caused by the invasion and encroachment on the strategic electricity facility.

With the impasse resolved, AEDC said its engineers had immediately returned to the substation to begin repairs on damaged infrastructure and fast-track the restoration of power supply to thousands of affected customers.

The electricity distribution company disclosed that its technical personnel had already been mobilised to the site and were working around the clock to restore power to Maitama and surrounding communities as quickly as possible.

The company explained that restoration efforts had previously been stalled by the operational challenges arising from the encroachment on the substation, describing the situation as one of the most difficult disruptions encountered in recent times.

AEDC commended the decisive intervention of both ministers, noting that their commitment and leadership were instrumental in resolving the crisis and creating the enabling environment for repair works to commence.

“The issues arising from the invasion and encroachment on the C2 Maitama Substation have now been resolved, paving the way for the commencement of repair works and the restoration of electricity supply to the affected communities,” the company said.

It assured customers that every stage of the repair process would be carried out in accordance with established safety standards to guarantee a reliable and sustainable restoration of the electricity supply.

The company also expressed appreciation to residents and business owners for their patience, understanding and cooperation throughout the prolonged outage, while reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding critical electricity infrastructure and improving service delivery across its network.
