Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Nyesom Wike, has promised to complete the abandoned Apo-Karshi Road project within six months.

He expressed frustration with the delay and politicisation of infrastructure projects.

Wike, who visited the site yesterday, stressed the need for accountability and transparency, noting that despite the government paying 86 percent of the contract value, it had not been completed.

The minister who expressed disappointment that the contract was awarded 13 years ago, said, “I will take this road as a personal project to ensure that the road is completed.

“In the next two weeks, I want to see the equipment on the ground before I commit funds. I am not happy; this is not what the citizens bargained for,” he said.

The minister emphasised the importance of having contractors sign an undertaking to ensure accountability.

“We will have him sign an undertaking that if funds are provided, he will be complete it,” he insisted, showing his commitment to transparency and efficiency.

On why he will not commit funds to the interstate road, Wike said, “FCT cannot fund inter-state roads. I am not going to waste the FCT’s resources on that. The one that concerns FCT is the Apo-Karshi Road.”

He states that the road is a critical infrastructure project that has been delayed for too long due to political interference and mismanagement.
