Wike’s Aide Tackles Peter Obi, Says FCT Not Run Like ‘Beer Parlour’ Government

The senior special assistant to the FCT Minister, Lere Olayinka, has criticised Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, that he should stop seeking media attention and focus on his political future.

Olayinka, in a statement on Thursday, said the FCT Administration under the Minister Nyesom Wike was not operating the kind of ‘beer parlour-style development’ Obi allegedly ran in Anambra State during his eight years as governor.

He said that the FCTA was focused on genuine and measurable development projects, revealing that 73 schools are currently being renovated across the six area councils of the FCT, while 21 schools have already been completed.

Peter Obi had recently visited LEA Primary School in Kuje Area Council, where he criticised the poor condition of public schools, describing it as a “national disgrace.”

Reacting to that, Olayinka said while there were indeed schools in need of attention, the Wike-led FCTA was actively addressing the situation through numerous renovation projects.

He stated that 102 contracts have been awarded for school renovations and that 21 of those projects have been fully completed.

The minister’s aide challenged Obi to tell Nigerians how many schools he built or renovated during his time as Anambra Stats governor, claiming that Obi failed to improve education and other key sectors in the South-East State.

Olayinka accused Obi of hoarding state funds in personal banks instead of investing them in infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, and roads.

He claimed Anambra was still suffering from the effects of Obi’s alleged poor governance.

He further mocked Obi’s statement that he could transform Nigeria in four years, saying the former governor failed to do so in Anambra in eight years.

Calling Obi an ‘internally displaced politician’ who now depends on the media for relevance, Olayinka said it was laughable that someone without a clear political platform for 2027 election was roaming around attacking others.

He taunted Obi, asking under which party he plans to contest the 2027 presidential election and if any party would nominate him again “just because he claims to own one shoe and one wristwatch.”
