…Alleges Plot to Disrupt Opposition Party Meetings in Rivers
The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State, Hon. Gabriel Pidomson, has declared that the governorship candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election are former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and political allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike.
Describing the Wike-led Rainbow Coalition as “rainbow confusion,” the ADC governorship candidate insisted that the coalition comprises the minister’s political structure and part of the APC structure that refused to leave the ruling party.
Pidomson, who is also a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, spoke yesterday during a live radio programme monitored in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.
“I have not seen any Rainbow Coalition in Rivers State. The only thing I have seen in Rivers State is rainbow confusion. We talk of the so-called rainbow confusion; it is a simple matter.
“Check out the governorship candidates of the APC. Which of them was a member of a party other than the PDP, or was not part of former Governor Nyesom Wike’s political family?
“So, when they talk about this coalition, it is still the same structure and part of the APC structure that remained. Now, in the ADC, we have PDP members who refused to join them and APC members who refused to join that family. If we are talking about a coalition, the ADC is the real coalition.”
The ADC governorship candidate promised that there would be no godfatherism in his administration if elected governor in 2027, attributing some of the challenges facing Rivers State to mismanagement and poor governance.
Meanwhile, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Omuma Local Government Area of Rivers State has alleged a plot by unidentified persons to disrupt its meetings and other gatherings in the area.
Addressing journalists in Port Harcourt, the ADC Publicity Secretary in the LGA, Precious Anucha, stated that the party had no plans to interfere in the activities of any political group and was committed to peaceful political engagement.
Anucha stated that ADC members have the constitutional right to associate, hold meetings, and participate in lawful political activities.
He also stated that the people of Omuma should be free to choose their political parties and candidates without threat or pressure.
The ADC spokesman warned that any attempt to disrupt the party’s meetings would be resisted through lawful means, including reporting incidents to security agencies and pursuing legal action where necessary.
“Do not mistake our commitment to peace for weakness. We have chosen the path of peace because we believe that politics should be about ideas, programmes, and the confidence of the people, not intimidation or violence.
“But if anyone attempts to intimidate ADC members or unlawfully disrupt activities in Omuma Local Government Area, we will respond firmly, collectively, and lawfully. We will defend our members’ rights to the core. We will protect our lawful meetings through appropriate security and legal measures,” he said.
Anucha called on the Nigeria Police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies to remain professional and ensure that ADC members can carry out their activities without intimidation or interference.
The ADC spokesman said: “We urge them (security agencies) to remain professional, impartial, and vigilant and ensure that ADC members are able to conduct their lawful political activities without intimidation or any form of interference.
“Security agencies have an important role in ensuring that elections and political activities take place without threats to peace or public safety. No security agency should permit itself to be used to intimidate citizens or unlawfully disrupt political meetings.”
