South Africa’s goalkeeper, Ronwen Williams, has voiced profound disappointment regarding the perceived lack of support from fellow African nations following their 2-0 defeat to Mexico in the opening match of the World Cup.

In a candid interview, Williams revealed the emotional toll of the experience: “We almost shed tears because we expected Africa to stand with us.” He elaborated on his confusion, stating, “Africans have always supported other African countries in every World Cup tournament, but I can’t figure out why our own case was different. Many Africans supported Mexico instead of us, the South Africans. We almost shed tears, but truly this is sad.”

Williams concluded with a heartfelt plea for unity: “As Africans, let’s stand for each other. Let’s stand together.” His comments highlight a surprising sentiment within the Bafana Bafana camp, questioning the traditional solidarity among African football fans on the global stage.
