Windstorm Kills 1, Destroys 100 Houses In Nasarawa

One person has lost his life while several others were wounded as a result of windstorm in Agbashi community, Doma local government area of Nasarawa State.

Over 100 houses were destroyed in the incident which occurred yesterday, LEADERSHIP learnt.

While confirming the incident to newsmen, John Bako – Ari, vice chairman, Doma LGA described the development as tragic.

He said among the structures affected include the Agbashi Central Mosque, part of Pilot Primary School, several other public infrastructure and scores of residential houses.

“Is true that the windstorm destroyed over 100 houses including, mosque and primary school, the incident happened yesterday in the evening,” he said.

Also speaking on the incident, Mr Anthony Oshinyeka, acting chairman, Agbashi Development Association (ADA) described the incident as unfortunate.

He said a Bassa settlement in Iponu on the outskirts of Agbashi was badly affected, adding that one man lost his life while seven others have also been injured in the area.

Oshinyeka called on the government to urgently intervene to ameliorate the suffering of the people as a result of the incident.

He said in the interim, the government should provide relief materials and medical aids to the affected communities.
