Nigerian parents have been charged to blend religious education with Western education for their children so that they could become responsible citizens and future leaders.
The speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Engr. Yakubu Danladi-Salihu made the call at the grand finale of the 1447/2025 state’s Quranic recitation competition in Ilorin, the state capital.
Represented by the majority leader of the House, Hon. Abdulkadir Magaji, the speaker said inculcating religious education in the children is a parental duty that would make the society a better place for all to live and as well attract reward in the hereafter.
Danladi- Salihu disclosed plans by the legislature to make legislations to support children education in the state.
The guest speaker,Prof Badmas Yusuf who was represented by Dr Mohammad Jumma -Dasuki said the Holy Qur’an harps on the importance of acquiring religious knowledge by the people.
He enjoined Muslims to imbibe the principles of good character and mercy as enshrined in the Holy Qur’an.
Yusuf emphasised the need for the Muslims to comprehend the Holy Qur’an and work in line with Allah’s commandments therein.
Earlier, the chairman of the Kwara State Committee on National Quranic Recitation Competition, Alh Shehu AbdulGafar, had said the competition was geared towards selecting the state flag bearers for the forthcoming national competition billed to hold in Maiduguri,Borno State.
AbdulGafar called for the state government’s continued support for the committee.
Muhammad Tajudeen emerged the winner of the 60 HIZB( Qur’an Kamil Wa Tafsir), AbdulWaris Ismail came second , while AbdulMajeed AbdulKareem came third.
For the female category Jameelat Tijani emerged winner,Khadijat Ajijolakewu came second while Aishat Adekanye came third.
