Lagos State Police Command has arrested a drink seller identified as Taue Abass for allegedly using a 10-year-old girl identified as her niece as drug courier in Lagos.

The 44-year-old woman suspected to be a drug runner said she used the girl to haul the substance from their house to where she sells it to avoid being suspected or checked, as no one would suspect a small girl.

The  command spokesperson, Ben Hundeyin, revealed this when the suspect was paraded at the Police Command in Ikeja.

According to him, the suspect was arrested last Wednesday after her niece was found on the streets and was brought to the Pen Cinema Police Division in Agege.

Hundeyin said the divisional police officer (DPO) directed that the girl should bathe, while the police would look for her parents.

He affirms that while the girl was trying to bath, the police discovered a substance suspected to be Colorado was placed in the minor’s panties.

He, however, stated that, “The discovery prompted further questions, which revealed that this has been going on for a long time; so, we had to extend the investigation to her house, and we were able to bring her guardian (the suspect) to the police station.

“She did not deny it. She admitted that this had been her way to courier drugs from her house to the shop she sells them, to beat police checks.

“That is why we are exposing her to Nigerians,” he affirms.

Hundeyin added that the girl would be handed over to her family, while the suspect would be prosecuted.
