The management of Yankari Game Reserve has appealed to the Bauchi State government to recruit more staff for the reserve.
Speaking to journalists to commemorate the 2024 World Rangers Day, the general manager of the reserve, Muhammad Yusuf, said it needs additional manpower to provide adequate protection for its resources.
He called on Governor Bala Mohammed to come to the aid of the reserve by employing more rangers.
“Rangers are significant stakeholders in protecting the game reserve hence the need for the governments to employ more to be able to protect the wide forest,” he said.
Yusuf commended the Wildlife Conservation Society of Nigeria (WCS) for its support to the reserve and rangers, emphasising the importance of rangers in monitoring wildlife and patrolling the reserve.
The project manager, WCS Nigeria, Nuru Ahmad, emphasised the need to protect wildlife as a move to safeguard the ecosystem.
