The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Yobe State has accused Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency (YOROTA) and security agencies of removing its flags and campaign posters in various parts of the state.
A member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) and PDP leader in the state, Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, made the allegation at the inauguration of the party’s State Campaign Council (SCC) in Damaturu, Yobe State Capital.
Waziri said, “I received reports from various parts, especially from Damaturu and Gujba local government areas, Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency (YOROTA) allegedly assisted by police and Civil Defence, have been removing our flags in various parts of the State,” he said.
He said the PDP had the right to exist and operate as a political party in Nigeria’s political space.
“We equally have a right to share the political space with any of the other 17 political parties recognised by the Nigerian law,” he said.
In a chat with journalists, the police public relations officer, Yobe State Command, Dungus Abdulkarim, said the allegation against police personnel was not true.
Dungus added that policemen were neutral, impartial and never get involved in politics.
When contacted the NSCDC public relations officer, Bala Garba, said the allegation against NSCDC was not true.
All efforts to reach the managing director, (YOROTA) Alhaji Goneri Bature, over the accusation failed.
