The local government and councillorship election held in Yobe State yesterday had a low turnout of voters as only a handful of people were at polling units to elect their council leaders and lawmakers.

Our correspondent visited several polling units and reported that electoral officials, security officers, and party agents lamented the absence of voters in the election.

Voters strolled into polling units one by one or in small groups to cast their votes. Due to the low turnout, no queues were observed at the polling units.

Many people opened for business with many seen at different bus stops trying to commute from one part of the state to another local government despite the movement restrictions announced by the state government.

According to our correspondent who monitored the election, turnout was low at Bulama Kurma polling unit in Gwange Ward, Modu Fafkena polling unit in Gwange Ward, and the Primary Health Care polling unit, except for a few polling units where turnout was relatively fair.
