The Yobe State Governor Hon Mai Mala Buni, was in Maiduguri on the invitation of the Borno State governor Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum to commission housing and road projects executed by his administration in Maiduguri, Borno state capital.
A statement issued by the director general Press Affairs and Media to the Governor, Alhaji Mamman Mohammed said Buni who was a special guest of honour at the ceremony, commended the governor for investing in the people oriented projects in Borno.
The Governor said “Borno and Yobe states have always been one. We are a people binded by the same culture and tradition but demarcated for administrative convenience.
“We have always identified with one another, shared the good and the challenging moments together. We have also shared the sad and unfortunate insurgency security challenge which claimed many precious lives, displaced millions of our people, and destroyed critical infrastructures, drawing us many years backwards.
“Today, Borno and Yobe states are both striving to emerge from that challenge by adopting the Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Recovery programmes.
“On our part, we have invested heavily in education, Healthcare delivery, agriculture, and empowerment for sustainable means of livelihood to give the state and its people a promising future.
“This year, we launched a multi billion Naira agricultural empowerment programme which redefined agricultural production at the end of the harvest season.
“We equally supported flood victims, vulnerable persons, small and medium scale entrepreneurs with N2.93 billion to stimulate economic growth.
“I am happy to state the interventions made by the two states are giving our states a solid foundation for a prosperous future,” Buni said.
He congratulated the beneficiaries of the projects and charged them to take ownership of the projects and all other infrastructures provided by the government.
“It is your property, it is meant to serve you effectively and efficiently, you should therefore guard it jealously,” he said.
Governor Buni used the forum and commended the federal government, security forces, para military agencies, Civilian JTF and vigilantes for supporting the states.
Earlier, Gov. Zulum said the projects were provided to improve the lives of the people.
Zulum named the Njimtilo 500 housing Units Maiduguri, after Governor Buni.
“The 500 Njimtilo housing estate is named and should be addressed as Mai Mala Housing estate,” Zulum said.
