The Yobe State Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation in collaboration with the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation has organised a 10-day training for 50 selected small and medium scale operators on soft skills in business development sustainability.
Governor Mai Mala Buni while flagging-off the training in Damaturu expressed happiness that the workshop was targeted at improving the skills of the participants with the aim of augmenting the state government’s drive of achieving increased employment and income generation among the people.
Represented by the secretary to the state government (SSG) Alhaji Baba Mallam Wali, Buni, said his administration places the empowerment of the youth and women as one of its priorities adding that the state has collaborated with federal government in the ongoing implementation of smallholder farmer programme that provides credit facility for improved agricultural productivity.
“It is gratifying to note that this event is designed as a train-the-trainer workshop for 50 participants in 10 types of small and medium scale businesses namely: Furniture-making, Catering, Tailoring/Fashion Design, Auto Technicians, Electronic Technicians, Food Processing. Poultry, Aquaculture, Animal Husbandry and Building Industry.
“At the end of the training, participants are expected to be well trained and each capable of training one person and continuously for the knowledge acquired to spread among the existing small and medium enterprises in the form of a revolving cycle of train-the-trainers programme for increased productivity and wealth creation in the state,” he said.
The senior special assistant to Governor Buni on wealth creation, empowerment and employment generation, Hon Abdullahi Bego while speaking said the training by the foundation was in line with governor Buni’s empowerment drive through special support and interventions to SMEs among other citizens.
Bego stated that “The beneficiaries of this training by the Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation were selected by the ministry in conjunction with the amalgamated association of SMEs in Yobe State based on their skills and area of specialisations for better results.”
The director general of the foundation, Engr. Abubakar G. Umar said the training programme was part of the capacity development initiatives organised by them across the 19 states of the North and the Federal Capital Territory.
