The security council also reviewed the security situation in the state to further strengthen security in all communities across the state.

A statement signed by the director general of Press and Media Affairs to the governor, Mamman Mohammed, said the meeting, which was chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni, discussed extensively increased surveillance along the borders to curb incursions into the state, as witnessed some weeks ago.

Briefing newsmen after the meeting, the special adviser to the governor on security matters, Brig. Gen. Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), said new operational measures have been adopted to enhance security across the state.

According to him, “ Governor, Mala Buni visited the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, and they had very extensive meeting on reinforcement and measures to boost security in the state.

“There are further plans to meet with the other service chiefs to deepen the discussions on the additional measures to improve security in the state.”

He said the council charged the security agencies to hasten the clearance operation, and to provide adequate security for the people to harvest their farms produce.

Meanwhile, the speaker of the Yobe State House of Assembly, Chiroma Buba Mashio, has condemned the attack on Mafa village in the Tarmuwa local government area of the state by suspected insurgents, leading to the death of many villagers and the destruction of property.

The speaker said that it was barbaric and highly insensitive for any group of persons to take up arms against innocent persons.

According to him, “ We feel highly saddened by the incident, where some militants attacked the Mafa village and several persons before destroying the whole village.’’
