Yobe Govt Reopens 2 Weekly Markets After Boko Haram Attack

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has resolved to reopen Kukareta and Katarko weekly markets, after the attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists.

The decision was arrived at the meeting held to review the security situation in the state at the Government House, Damaturu, the state capital.

The Governor who was represented by his deputy, Hon Idi Barde Gubana, said the meeting was to review and analyse the security situation across the state, and to ensure the safety of citizens and their property across the state.

Governor Buni appealed to residents of the state to continue supporting the security agencies and provide necessary information to continue enjoying the relative peace in the state.

He commended the security chiefs for their presence and commitment to the security meeting, saying the platform allowed the government to critically assess the security situation and adjust strategies to consolidate the progress achieved.

Also, speaking, the Special Adviser on Security Matters to the Governor, Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd) who briefed newsmen on the outcome of the meeting said the meeting resolved to reopen two, out of the three shut weekly markets while restrictions on filling stations operations from 6am to 6pm is still in force.

Abdulsalam also disclosed that the meeting noted that traders were still hanging around Bayan Tasha, with some not willing to cooperate with government to move them to a new market.

He further disclosed that the meeting prohibited petty trading at Bayan Tasha, directing traders to the newly contracted modern market on Potiskum Road in Damaturu, where provisions have been made to accommodate all traders.

The security meeting also agreed to constitute a committee to look into the encroachment of grazing lands across the state.
