The Yobe State government has settled all the West African Examination Council (WAEC), National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS) for its 18, 623 students sitting for the 2024 examinations.

The commissioner of Basic and Secondary Education, Dr Mohammed Sani Idriss stated this while distributing foodstuff to principals of Senior Secondary Schools for feeding SSS3 students during an extension programme initiated by the government to prepare them to pass both national and West African examinations.

Idriss stated that the payment of the fees even before the commencement of the examination was to ensure that the students get their results immediately after the exercise.
He said, “I want to tell you that it is only in Yobe State that the government is shouldering the responsibility of the payment of WAEC, NECO and NBAIS fees.
“Completely, the 18, 623 students have all their payment for the registration of their examinations settled by the Yobe State government.

“It is only in Yobe State that a government is giving its citizens a private inclined education that is being paid from the treasury of the state government.”
