Former Minister of Transportation, Alhaji Mu’azu Jaji Sambo, has declared support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, expressing confidence that the All Progressives Congress (APC) will record a strong performance in the general elections.
Alhaji Sambo, who served as Taraba State Coordinator of the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 elections, made the declaration in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital.
The Ex-Minister, who also served as Minister of State for Works and Housing under the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari, urged Nigerians to give Tinubu a second term to consolidate the administration’s economic reforms and development policies.
His endorsement comes as political activities and consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections gather momentum, with the president’s performance, economic policies and prospects for re-election expected to feature prominently in political debates.
Alhaji Sambo expressed confidence that the economic reforms, alongside increased investment in infrastructure, would deliver long-term benefits to Nigerians, despite the current economic challenges and rising cost of living.
“We are not oblivious to the feedback from the commoner and the general increase in the cost of living. However, we believe that the sacrifices being made today are necessary for enduring economic and financial stability,” he said.
He urged Nigerians to allow Tinubu to consolidate the administration’s economic recovery agenda through a second term, arguing that sustained implementation of the reforms would improve the country’s economic outlook.
“Nigerians can rest assured that it will get better. I firmly believe that the reforms, coupled with other interventions, including increased spending in infrastructure projects, will ultimately translate into long-term economic stability and prosperity for the people,” he said.
The APC chieftain, who was a governorship aspirant in the party’s last primary election in Taraba State, also called for more effective communication of the administration’s policies at the grassroots level.
He stressed that government officials and political stakeholders must do more to explain the immediate and long-term benefits of the reforms to ordinary Nigerians.
“Undoubtedly, PBAT is working, but we need men and women who will translate the impact of his work into simple terms that the commoner on the street can understand. Many people are not adequately explaining the benefits of these reforms, either in the short or over the long term,” Sambo said.
He called on Nigerians and political stakeholders to support the president’s development agenda, adding: “I believe it is high time all of us joined hands with President Tinubu to build our country.”
On the electoral outlook for 2027, Sambo expressed optimism that the APC would perform strongly nationwide, maintaining that the party had prospects of securing substantial support across the country.
