Yobe State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the federal government on long term electrification strategies.

The managing director of Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Abba Abubakar Aliyu and the secretary, Kashim Ibrahim, signed on behalf of the federal government while the Secretary to the Yobe State government, Baba Malam Wali and the commissioner for energy, Mohammed Mohammed Bara, signed on behalf of the state government.

The MOU was signed at a roundtable discussion between the state government, the Rural Electrification Agency and partners.

The agreement is to cover development and operation of sustainable decentralised solar power solutions across rural communities.

The state governor, Mai Mala Buni, said his administration electrified over 400 rural communities across the three senatorial zones, connecting them to the national grid.

“A new feeder line has also been constructed from the 330/132/33kV transmission facility to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the Yobe State University and Yobe State University Teaching Hospital.

“In a historic move, we achieved the first-ever connection of Gulani local government area to the national grid since its creation in 1991, while Kanama is nearing completion,” he said.
