To strengthen medical education, bridge critical manpower gaps and enhance healthcare delivery in Yobe State, Governor Mai Mala Buni, has sponsored 13 medical lecturers for postgraduate studies in reputable universities in Malaysia and India.

The beneficiaries, drawn from various medical disciplines, will pursue advanced postgraduate programmes in Medical Biochemistry, Medical Physiology, Medical Anatomy, Human Anatomy, Clinical Pharmacology, Medical Microbiology and Public Health at internationally-recognised institutions including Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), and Integral University, Lucknow, India.

The sponsorship is designed to develop highly qualified indigenous academics for the State’s medical college, meet accreditation requirements, address identified manpower deficiencies by the National Universities Commission (NUC), and position Yobe State as a centre of excellence in medical education and healthcare services.

The beneficiaries include Dr Aliyu Usman Muhammad, Dr Shu’aib Musa Umar, Dr Sani Mika’il Najume, Dr Ibrahim Abubakar, Hussaini Dauda Hussain, Dr Usman Alhaji Mohammed, Dr Haruna Luka, Dr Abdulhamid Auwal Muhammad, Dr Bilyaminu Mu’azu Zaji, Dr Aisa Abba Gana, Dr Saeed Usman Brah, Dr Umar Ahmad Aliyu, and Abubakar Kyari.

The intervention is one of the most significant investments in medical manpower development undertaken by any state government in recent years and the beneficiaries are expected to return with advanced knowledge and skills that will contribute immensely to teaching, research, healthcare service delivery, and medical innovation in the state.

He noted that the administration remains committed to expanding access to quality education, strengthening healthcare institutions, and creating opportunities that empower young professionals to contribute meaningfully to the development of Yobe State.

The overseas training programme adds to the long list of educational and healthcare reforms implemented by the Buni administration, further reinforcing its vision of building a healthier, more educated, and prosperous Yobe State.

With this investment, Governor Mai Mala Buni continues to demonstrate that the future of Yobe lies in the development of its people, ensuring that the state is equipped with the skilled workforce necessary to drive sustainable growth and improve the quality of life of its citizens.
