The Yobe State Government has issued a stern warning to civil servants who engage in abuse of office, corrupt practices, and unethical conduct, as well as making illegal demands for money from applicants seeking employment in the State Civil Service, that they will face the full weight of the law.
A circular signed by the Yobe State Head of Civil Service, Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Shehu, stated that it followed allegations of misconduct involving some civil servants in the state.
According to him, petitions and reports from security agencies stating that no civil servant found guilty of complicity or corruption would go unpunished, investigations are already underway to verify the allegations and establish their credibility.
He said that the government assured that all reported cases would be thoroughly examined and that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against anyone found culpable.
The circular reiterated the Yobe State Government’s commitment to accountability, transparency, and prudent management of public resources, stressing that these principles remain central to governance under both past and present administrations.
However, it warned that any civil servant found guilty of abusing office or involvement in corrupt practices would be sanctioned strictly in line with the relevant provisions of the Public Service Rules (PSR 04401, xi and xvii).
The head of the service office further emphasised its responsibility in implementing government policies and programs in accordance with the vision of Governor Mai Mala Buni, which is focused on maintaining a clean, transparent, and service-oriented public service.
Shehu said Governor Buni reiterated his commitment to integrity and accountability, emphasising that he has never demanded personal loyalty or favouritism from any government official.
He said Buni’s administration remains guided by due process and fairness, so that history will judge his leadership justly.
According to the circular, Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) were also reminded that the government would not tolerate any action capable of undermining its ongoing employment initiatives aimed at providing jobs, promoting self-reliance, and ensuring the dignity of labour for youths.
Leadership gathered that the Heads of MDAs were directed to sensitise their staff and ensure full compliance with ethical standards, professionalism, and the Public Service Rules.
