The Yobe State Police Command has arrested 50-year-old Alhaji Hassan Umaru for allegedly murdering a fellow villager, 45-year-old Sukari Abdul, over suspicion of an affair involving his wife.
According to the Command’s spokesman, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the incident occurred on Sunday, February 1, 2026, around 12:30 p.m., in Bundila Village, Gulani local government area of the State. The confrontation reportedly escalated at the market square, where Umaru allegedly attacked Abdul with a cutlass.
The victim was rushed to Bularaba Primary Health Care Facility, where a medical practitioner confirmed his death. Authorities said the suspect was promptly apprehended, and the weapon used in the attack was recovered.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a thorough investigation.
Reacting to the incident, Commissioner of Police, CP Emmanuel Ado, urged residents not to take the law into their own hands, especially in marital or social disputes, and called on the public to report grievances to the appropriate authorities.
