The Yobe State Police Command has dismantled an illegal firearms fabrication workshop in Potiskum, arresting seven suspects in a coordinated raid on suspected blacksmiths engaged in the production of weapons.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, the operation was carried out on July 2, 2026, following credible intelligence received by the Potiskum Area Command.

The raid was conducted in collaboration with the divisional police headquarters after reports indicated that some blacksmiths were allegedly fabricating Dane guns and other firearms at Tashan Asia along Danchuwa Road in Potiskum town.

Items recovered from the scene included two fabricated pistols, 24 muzzle pipes, nine gun butts, four unserviceable Dane guns, one filing machine, and a cutlass.

The police said the suspects are currently under investigation to determine their collaborators, possible buyers, and the intended use of the locally fabricated weapons.

The Commissioner of Police, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, directed investigators to intensify efforts to uncover additional illegal firearms fabrication centres and assess the wider security implications of such activities in the area.

He also urged officers to identify networks linked to the suspects and prevent further spread of illegal arms production.
