Yobe Scholarship Board Opens Portal For 2025/2026 Scholarships

The Yobe State Scholarship Board has officially opened its portal for the 2025/2026 academic session, inviting applications from indigenous students enrolled in tertiary institutions across the country.
This announcement was made by the Executive Secretary of the board, Dr. Abubakar Kagu, during a one-day symposium organized by the board at the Cedars Recreation Center in Damaturu.

The event brought together scholars from across the state, as well as national student leaders, to discuss issues related to government scholarship programs, the National Student Loan Fund (NELFUND) Scheme, and other scholarship opportunities.

A statement issued by the Information Officer of the board, Tijjani Chiroma said Dr. Kagu while speaking expressed gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni for his unwavering commitment to education and scholarship programs.

The ES highlighted the government’s efforts in supporting both local and overseas students through various scholarship initiatives.

He also reassured applicants that the scholarship application process is entirely free of charge.
Speaking via Zoom, the Managing Director of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, represented by Umar Muktar (Umar Yola) has while shedding more light on the already established NEL FUND scheme, emphasized that many Nigerian students are benefiting from the program and provided insights on the application process and eligibility criteria.

The symposium was attended by notable figures, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) of Yobe State University, Prof. Mohammed Musa Lawan; the Dean of Student Affairs, Federal Polytechnic Damaturu; the Dean of Student Affairs, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Damaturu; a representative of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Higher Education; and members of the National Student Union Government, among others.
