As part of measures to further boost livestock production, the Yobe State government will award a contract for the establishment of three additional new livestock development centres in the state.
The state governor Hon Mai Mala Buni stated this while presenting the 2024 budget proposal to the state house of assembly in Damaturu.
Buni said the award of the project was part of measures to further enhance the economic wellbeing of the people in addition to averting farmer/herder crisis across the state.
He said the government will also work towards ensuring the completion of the Nasari Livestock Development Center which has reached an advanced stage of completion adding that this among others inform the decision of earmarking the sum of over N828 million for the projects in the 2024 budget.
The governor equally assured that his administration will procure more fertilizer among other agricultural inputs to support farmers for improved crop production.
“The sum of Eight-Hundred and Twenty-Eight Million, Thirty-Two
Thousand, Four Hundred and Twenty-nine Naira, Six Kobo (N828,032,429.06) was incurred for the completion of the Nasari Livestock Development Center (LDC) and commencement of work at the Badegana and Gurjiyaje LDCs, Nguru Stock Development Centre as well as the agricultural components of the Nigeria Covid-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES).
“The amount also included the cost of procurement of fertilizers,
provision of other agricultural inputs to support rain-fed and irrigation activities as well as livestock production to accelerate post-insurgency recovery in various communities of the 17 LGAs.”
