The senator representing Yobe East senatorial district, Senator Ibrahim Geidam was appointed as the minister of police affairs by president Bola Ahmed Tinubu in August, 2023, thereby creating vacancy in the position.

The leader of the Coalition of Concern Groups for the former IGP, Muhammad Baba Ismail, while addressing newsmen in Damaturu said their mission is to formally seek for him to contest for the vacant position based on his track record of selfless service throughout his public service career.

Ismail said, “In a resounding display of solidarity and unwavering belief in the power of exemplary leadership, a Coalition of Concern Groups, dedicated to the betterment of Yobe State, has fervently appealed to the former inspector general of police to consider contesting the Yobe east senatorial seat when it is declared vacant.

“Alkali Baba Usman, (former Inspector General of Police) whose distinguished career in public service is characterised by an unrelenting commitment to upholding the law, fostering security, and implementing crucial reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, has garnered widespread respect and admiration.

“Under his visionary leadership, the Nigeria Police Force witnessed transformational reforms that not only bolstered public confidence but also contributed significantly to the development and progress of Nigeria.”

The movement expressed belief that the former inspector general of police’s presence in the National Assembly would usher in a new era of positive change, development, and a stronger voice at the national level.
