‘I’ll Support Trump, Any Country Helping Nigeria Fight Terrorism — Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that he was open to supporting United States President Donald Trump or any other country willing to assist Nigeria in tackling terrorism.

Speaking on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ on Monday evening, Wike said he welcomed any form of international collaboration that strengthens Nigeria’s fight against terrorism, noting that such partnerships are not unusual among nations.

“I have said I will support Trump in providing and supporting Nigeria with technology in fighting against terrorism,” the minister stated. “I will support any country that wants to proffer solutions in supporting the Nigerian government in fighting terrorism.”

Wike emphasised that terrorism is a global problem that requires cooperation beyond religion or national boundaries.

“After all, so many countries have done that in fighting terrorism,” he said. “When you go to other countries, who asks, ‘Is he a Muslim? Is he a Christian? Is he a non-believer?’ No one does that.”

The minister’s comments came amid ongoing debate over Trump’s recent remarks, threatening possible US military action against Nigeria over alleged persecution of Christians in the country.

Wike maintained that the focus should remain on building partnerships that strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture rather than politicising sensitive issues of religion and national security.
