Young professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked the leaders of the party to save the party from dying by sheathing their swords.
The PDP youths stated this under the aegis of PDP Unity and Reconciliation Advocacy Forum as well as PDP National Young Women’s League.
Convener of the PDP young professionals, Miss. Kwaghtagher J. Iwueseter-Natu, said while some persons or group feel those who worked against the party’s interest in the last election should be suspended, they however believe it is wise and politically expedient to toll the path of peace, unity and reconciliation.
The group further charged the acting national chairman, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum to immediately begin a reconciliation tour along with other members of the NWC.
They also demanded that the party should carry the youths along both in the reconciliation committee and reconciliation tour.
She said, “It is true that the disappointing outcome of the just concluded General Elections was largely due to the emergence of the G5 (Integrity Governors) faction within the party and also the inability of the leadership of the party at that time to nip the conflict in the bud,” she said.
She added, “As a group, we have come to the conclusion that the only way forward is peace, bridge building and complete reconciliation. The continuous internal conflict and factions in the party will cause more damage to our already bruised image, going forward, the party cannot afford to adopt or inherit the personal and individual grievances of members to determine its modus operandi.
“It is on this background that we there say: Our forum stands solidly for unity and discourages the suspension of members because it is time for reconciliation, it is time to anchor at peace, it is time for the party to take the best position of peacemaker.
“All aggrieved members must discontinue from making injurious statements against the party.
“The party’s leadership must find pragmatic approaches to reconciling all aggrieved members in the party especially the G5 otherwise known as the Integrity Governors faction or former integrity Governors,” she said.
