Youth Group Endorses Tinubu’s Re-election Bid

National Youth Political Coalition (NYPC) has declared its support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term re-election bid.

NYPC said its endorsement is based on the expectation that the administration will strengthen policy implementation, create more jobs, improve security and ensure that government programmes deliver tangible benefits to Nigerians.

At a press conference in Abuja yesterday, the chairman of the coalition, Hon. Charles Dagana, said the decision followed the group’s assessment of the Tinubu administration’s performance and its commitment to sustaining reforms aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians, particularly young people.

Dagana praise the government’s efforts in economic reforms, infrastructure development and security but maintained that more must be done to address the country’s economic challenges, including the rising cost of living and unemployment.

“We recognise that governing a country like Nigeria is not easy, and we acknowledge the efforts made so far in infrastructure, security and the economy.

“However, there is still much to be done. Our support is based on the need for greater implementation of policies, youth-focused economic opportunities, improved security and ensuring that government programmes reach ordinary Nigerians,” he said.

He called on the government, at all level to focus on effective implementation of existing policies, noting that many government initiatives fail to achieve their intended objectives because of weak execution and inadequate monitoring.

Dagana also reiterated the coalition’s support for the proposed establishment of state police, describing it as a necessary step towards addressing Nigeria’s security challenges.

Also speaking, the National Speaker of the National Youth Assembly of Nigeria, Hon. Usman Shagari, called on the government to create more employment opportunities for young people, invest in education, technology, innovation and agriculture, strengthen security and accelerate infrastructure development.

Shagari stressed that the coalition remained independent and would continue to support any political party or candidate whose policies promote youth empowerment, good governance, national unity and economic growth.

“Our support will be based on competence, commitment and good policies, not political affiliation. Nigeria comes first. The youth come first. The future starts now,” he said.

He added that democracy thrives on a vibrant opposition that provides constructive alternatives rather than focusing solely on criticism.

“Nigerians want leaders who will put the country’s interest first. Politics should be about solving problems, not personal ambition,” he said.

While acknowledging progress recorded by the current administration, Shagari expressed concern that many public office holders had fallen short of the expectations of Nigerians.

“Public office holders must be transparent, accountable and focused on delivering results,” he said.

He welcomed the passage of the State Police Bill and urged both the Federal and State Governments to ensure its effective implementation.

Shagari also called for the establishment of Women Rights and Youth Development Commissions to promote the welfare of women and young people, as well as a Physical Development Commission (PDC) to monitor government-funded infrastructure projects nationwide.

According to him, the proposed commission would enhance project supervision, improve accountability and ensure that development projects reach rural communities.

“Our focus is no longer just on making policies but on ensuring that those policies are implemented effectively and benefit the people directly,” he said.

Earlier, the National Women Leader of the coalition, Hon. Aisha Yusuf, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and inclusion, stressing that women must be given equal opportunities to contribute to national development.

“When women are empowered, when their voices are heard and when they are fully included in all areas of national life, the nation flourishes,” she said.

Yusuf added that Nigerian youths were prepared to contribute their creativity, innovation and energy towards building a stronger and more prosperous country.

“Young Nigerians are full of creativity and innovation, and we are ready to contribute to national development,” she said.

She also advocated the establishment of a Women Rights Commission to strengthen the protection and advancement of women’s rights across the country.

The National Publicity Secretary of the coalition, Hon. Solomon Fayese, commended the proposed establishment of state police, describing it as a significant step towards improving security nationwide.

“We commend the President for the proposed constitutional amendment on state police. We urge the National and State Assemblies to ensure its smooth passage and implementation for the safety of Nigerians,” he said.

Fayese, however, expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of some youth political appointees, saying many had yet to make meaningful contributions to job creation and youth development.

“Our concern is that some youth appointees have not done enough to create jobs and improve the lives of young Nigerians. We need practical results, not just good ideas on paper,” he said
