A youth-based socio-cultural organisation in Kogi State, the Bassa-Nge Youths Progressive Union (BNYPU), has refuted reports alleging a crisis in the Bassa-Nge Kingdom over the selection of a new Etsu, describing such claims as misleading and capable of inciting tension.
In a rejoinder issued in Gboloko which was jointly signed by the union’s president, Comrade NDA Isah and general secretary, Comrade Aliyu Yakubu made available to journalists in Lokoja yesterday, the group said the kingdom remained peaceful and united, contrary to reports suggesting a looming breakdown of law and order.
The earlier publication had alleged rising tension in the area, citing accusations of manipulation and hijack of the traditional stool selection process, with warnings of possible unrest if urgent action was not taken.
However, the group dismissed the claims as unfounded, insisting that due process was strictly adhered to in the emergence of the Etsu Bassa-Nge, in line with the customs and traditions of the people.
