In the spirit of the festive season, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) with support from Barnabas Aid from United Kingdom has distributed food items to 5,000 households from Kaduna and four other Northern States in Nigeria.
Speaking at the flag off of the distribution to 1,000 Kaduna State beneficiaries of the items drawn from Chikun and Kajuru local government areas, Northern CAN chairman said, beneficiaries include the disabled, displaced people as a result of insurgents and the vulnerable in the society.
Items distributed include rice, beans, garri, salt, sugar, groundnut oil, red oil, maggi and maize.
Rev. Hayab said, the gesture from Northern CAN supported by the Barnabas Aid may not solve the challenges of the beneficiaries but will certainly help them to celebrate the festive season relatively well while urging them not to sell the food items.
Also speaking, Dr Jonah Samson, Northern CAN vice chairman, described the event as historic and mandate of loving one another given by Jesus Christ.
“These are people whose homes were burnt, families shattered and futures stolen, among them are displaced families, widows, orphans and many living with disabilities,” he said.
“With prices soaring and hunger spreading, the support is a lifeline for families living hand-to-mouth. This may not solve every problem,” Rev. Samson added, “but it brings relief, dignity and hope.”
The project cuts across denominations, uniting Christians around one message: love in action.
CAN also revealed plans to continue humanitarian work into 2026, signalling the Church’s commitment to rendering services.
One message rang out loud and clear from the outreach; “When the world turns its back, the Church shows up”.
Some of the beneficiaries who could not hide their joy commended Northern CAN for reaching out to them particularly at this festive period and prayed that God will bless CAN and Barnabas Aid for the kind gesture.
A visually impaired beneficiary, Rev. Amos Banda from COCIN Church and another physically challenged man Reuben Ibrahim Jerusalem of the Baptist Church Maraban Rido in Kajuru local government area of Kaduna State said their joy know no bounds and called on other organisations to always remember them and show love to them like Barnabas Aid through Northern CAN has done.
