In the spirit of yuletide season, Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) has donated 10 grinding engines, 10 sewing machines and 10 equator standing hair dryers to the FCT chapter of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) for
distribution to their members who are widows.
Presenting the items to the chairperson of POWA, FCT chapter, Hajiya Salamatu Garba Haruna, on behalf of SEOF, AIG Chris Ezike (rtd) and chief of staff to Sir Emeka Offor, said the donation was in response to POWA letter to the foundation, requesting support to
empower its members, adding that it is part of their corporate responsibility.
He said, “Sir Emeka Offor Foundation is an NGO that operates nationally and internationally.
“What we do is on a tripod, we are engaged in educational development, health and human services and empowerment. What we are doing today falls under our third legs which is empowerment.
“POWA wrote us a letter asking for support to be able to meet up the needs of its members within the FCT. We are aware of excruciating conditions under which Police and their families operate. We are also aware that if you empower the women of the house, you have invariably empowered the man.
“Challenges of law enforcement and security in the country apparently force very young wives to go into windows. So, we get interested in mitigating the challenges they face, knowing that their husbands died defending the country.
“So, we decided as a foundation to assist with 10 grinding machines, 10 sewing machines and 10 hair dryers. We hope this modest donation will put a smile on the faces of your members,” Ezike said.
Responding, chairperson of POWA, FCT Command, Hajiya salamatu Garba Haruna, thanked SEOF for the gestion, saying she will distribute the machines to windows and less privileges within the commanding to support their families.
“On behalf of my members, the windows and the less privileges within the FCT command, we are so happy and grateful to SEOF. I wrote a letter to Emeka Offor Foundation to assist us to empower our women and today we are with plenty of gifts for them. I know they would be very happy and God will bless Sir Emeka Offor and his entire family for us. We will distribute it to the women to use to make small money to support the family,” she said.
