Zamfara State government’s delegation on a strategic mission to Sweden has engaged leading institutions and development partners to explore collaborations to advance the state’s digital and economic transformation agenda.

The delegation, led by Governor Dauda Lawal, held a series of high-level engagements to attract partnerships, investments and technical support to strengthen digital infrastructure, innovation and human capital development in the state.

The executive secretary of the Zamfara State Information Technology Development Agency (ZITDA), Dr Habib Gajam, said t the mission was designed to establish practical partnerships capable of accelerating the state’s digital transformation drive.

According to him, the discussions centred on cybersecurity, secure connectivity, telecommunications infrastructure and strategies to expand digital access across Zamfara and the wider North-West region.

Gajam said the delegation met with the Stockholm International Program for Digitalisation (SPIDER) at Stockholm University, where discussions focused on digital governance, digital inclusion, capacity building, and support for the Zamfara Institute of Information Technology (ZIIT).

He added that engagements with the Research Institutes of Sweden (RISE) explored opportunities in applied research, innovation, technology adoption, institutional development and collaborative research initiatives.

The delegation also met with officials of the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS), during which discussions centred on regulatory best practices, broadband expansion, digital infrastructure development, and universal access initiatives.

According to Gajam, talks with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) focused on development cooperation, institutional strengthening, digital skills development, youth empowerment and sustainable development programmes.

The delegation further engaged the Norrsken Foundation to explore opportunities to connect Zamfara’s emerging innovators, entrepreneurs, and startups with global innovation networks, mentorship programmes, and impact investment ecosystems.

Gajam noted that the engagements align with Governor Lawal’s vision of placing technology, innovation and human capital development at the heart of Zamfara’s development agenda. “These engagements reinforce the vision of Governor Dauda Lawal to position technology, innovation and human capital development at the centre of Zamfara State’s transformation agenda,” he said.
