The Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) yesterday urged stakeholders in Kaura-Namoda South Constituency of Zamfara State to ensure next month’s by-election is credible and transparent.

The commission rallied the stakeholders’ support at a meeting held in the constituency as part of the preparations for the August by-election into the Kaura-Namoda South Constituency in the state Assembly.

The election is to fill the seat which became vacant after the death of Hon Aminu Ibrahim Kasuwar Daji, on April 9, 2025.

In his address, the resident electoral commissioner (REC) Mahmud Isah, said the election would be held on August 16, 2025.

He said the seat was declared vacant after the lawmaker’s death, through a letter to INEC chairman dated April 16, 2025.

He said the procedure was in line with provisions of the Nigerian constitution.

The REC added that a formal notice of election will be placed at the INEC office in Kaura-Namoda as well as in the six registration areas on July 16, 2025 where the election would hold which comprises of Banga, San-Isa, Kagara, Kurya Madaro, Kyambarawa and Sakajiki.

He also said the success of every election is based on the responsibility of all stakeholders.

He therefore appealed to them to play their role in ensuring a successful conduct of the election.

“Let me remind you that successful conduct of the election is a responsibility for all of us, the stakeholders. INEC is planning this election in a manner that it will be free, fair and credible and pass the test of acceptability.

“However, such will be only possible where all the Stakeholders play their own roles as provided by laws of our beloved country Nigeria, this meeting is an ample opportunity for stakeholders to contribute and ask questions for the success of the election.

“INEC is committed to upholding the highest tenets of integrity, openness and level playing ground for a free, transparent, credible and acceptable bye-election. We will live up to our vision, mission and core values of integrity and impartiality,” the REC said.
