Zamfara government has proposed N1.3 billion in the 2024 appropriation bill for the control of gully erosion in seven major areas across the state.
The state commissioner for environment and natural resources, Mahmud Muhammad, disclosed this while speaking to newsmen after defending the 2024 proposed budget of the ministry at the State House of Assembly.
The commissioner noted that a total sum of N20 billion was earmarked for the ministry to ensure environmental protection, sanitation as well as control of deforestation among others.
Muhammad further revealed that the state government planned to purchase 12,000 modern kitchen stoves to be distributed to vulnerable households.
“The project will also reduce carbon dioxide emissions, is aimed at attracting carbon credit for the state as well as reducing deforestation and environmental pollution,” he added.
According to him, the projects would have great impacts on the state as it will reduce various health challenges as a result of using fire wood.
He further said that more vehicles and sanitation equipment would be procured by the state government to ensure clean environment in the year 2024.
