Defending champions Dolphins suffered their second defeat in four games after they were thrashed 77-40 by debutants Victoria Queens in the First Phase of the Zenith Bank/Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF) Women’s Basketball League in Lagos on Wednesday.
Victoria Queens produced a dominant display at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, taking all four quarters to secure a comprehensive victory on Day Four of the Atlantic Conference.
Dolphins had opened their campaign with a 59-46 victory over First Deep Water but subsequently suffered a 58-28 defeat to Bayelsa Blue Whales before narrowly overcoming IGP Queens 58-43.
Victoria Queens, meanwhile, have now won three of their four games. Their victories have come against IGP Queens, Bayelsa Blue Whales and Dolphins, with their only defeat coming against MFM.
First Bank maintained their perfect start to the conference on Wednesday, defeating Bayelsa Blue Whales 50-39 to record their fourth consecutive victory.
IGP Queens, however, continued their difficult campaign after losing 57-53 to Royal Aces.
In the Savannah Conference, Customs Women and Air Warriors remain unbeaten, having won all their matches so far.
Customs opened with a 62-51 victory over Titans before recording another convincing win, defeating Nasarawa Amazons 72-40.
The Savannah Conference has also undergone a fixture adjustment following the withdrawal of Kada Angels and Ham Warriors from the First Phase. Six teams are now participating in the conference.
