The Zone 2 Police Command in Onikan, Lagos, has announced its readiness to participate in activities marking the 2026 National Police Day, with events scheduled to run from March 30 to April 7.

The Command’s spokesperson, Mr Gbenga Afolayan, announced this in a statement on Saturday in Lagos.

He said that the initiative was aimed at strengthening community relations and promoting safer environments across Lagos and Ogun.

According to him, the week-long programme aligns with directives from the Inspector- General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, and is themed: “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”

“The theme underscores the police force’s commitment to fostering transparency, accountability, and mutual trust between law enforcement and the public,” he said.

The spokesperson said that activities would begin on Monday with environmental sanitation and cleaning exercises within the Zone 2 Command and surrounding areas.

“It will begin on Monday with sanitation, followed by a medical outreach programme aimed at providing healthcare services to members of the public.

“On Tuesday, residents are expected to participate in a walkathon designed to promote unity and healthy living.

“The third day of activities will focus on public sensitisation campaigns, including awareness on the prevention of electoral violence and ballot snatching, as well as safe driving practices for motorists.”

According to him, the programme will continue on Thursday, with the presentation of cheques to families of deceased police officers, recognising their sacrifices and providing support to their loved ones.

The image maker said that the series of events would culminate in a grand finale on April 7 in Abuja, featuring ceremonial parades and tactical displays by the police.

Afolayan called on residents to actively participate in the activities and collaborate with the police in building stronger partnerships.

“Such cooperation is essential in creating a safer and more secure society,” he said.
