A foundation named after the late Chief of Army Staff General Ibrahim Attahiru has awarded scholarships to 105 students to coincide with the period of Army Forces remembrance day.
The wife of the late chief of army staff , Hajiya Fati Attahiru disclosed this during the presentation of the scholarship awards to the student beneficiaries at the Government House Minna , that the scholarship programme was launched six months ago.
She said it was geared towards supporting the dependents of military personnel and other eligible youth to acquire knowledge and that the 105 beneficiaries were the first batch of the programme.
She appreciated the support from the Nigerian Army and the Government of Niger State, adding that the decision to choose the Armed Forces remembrance day to present the awards was to honour those who paid the supreme price for peace to reign in the country.
She also recounted the massive support the Foundation got from the immediate past Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tauheed Lagbaja saying, she would always reflect on the virtues of fallen heroes and the sacrifices they made while reminding people that everyone has a role to play in giving back to the society in every little way possible.
Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has said that his administration will continue to work closely with non-governmental organisations in order to equip the youth with the requisite training and skills to enable them to contribute to Nation building.
He described the late Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru as a great man who has left behind a lasting legacy saying that the state government is proud to be associated with the foundation created by the wife of the late former Chief of Army Staff and used the forum to call on beneficiaries of the scholarship award to endeavour to work hard and aspire to become great.
