The Bauchi State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of 11 persons while 32 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a fatal road crash along the Bauchi-Jos highway.

The Sector Command disclosed this in a Road Traffic Crash (RTC) situation report made available to journalists in Bauchi on Saturday.

According to the report, the victims were burnt beyond recognition after the two vehicles involved in the crash went up in flames following a collision.

The incident occurred at Panshanu Hill along the Bauchi-Jos Federal Highway under the jurisdiction of the RS12.14 Toro Unit Command.

The FRSC stated that the crash happened on Friday, April 17, 2026, at about 6:40pm, and was reported four minutes later while rescue personnel arrived at the scene within 10 minutes of notification.

The two vehicles were a white MAN mini-tanker operated by the Nigerian Police and a white Fiat J5 Boxer commercial bus with registration number KTU624XY.

The crash occurred on a single carriageway with an unpaved section. Preliminary investigations identified dangerous driving and worn-out tyres as the probable causes.

A total of 43 persons were involved in the crash, comprising 12 adult males, 19 adult females, five male children, and seven female children.

FRSC officials said the obstruction caused by the crash has been cleared. The injured victims were taken to Toro General Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were also deposited at the same facility.

The Corps added that the Nigeria Police has been duly informed of the incident. The rescue operation was led by SRC U.S. Hamisu.
