15-yr-old Girl Arrested For Dumping Newborn Inside Toilet In Borno IDPs Camp

A 15-year-old girl identified as Yafalmata Alhaji Mustapha has been arrested in Charamari Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Monguno, Monguno local government area of Borno State for allegedly dumping of a newborn into a pit toilet.

The suspect, Yafalmata was taken into custody after camp residents discovered the infant’s lifeless body around 6a.m. on Thursday, prompting an immediate police investigation.

According to security sources, officers and medical personnel promptly arrived at the scene to document evidence and evacuate the remains of the infant to the Monguno General Hospital.

A medical doctor pronounced the infant dead on arrival while an autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death.

The corpse was subsequently released to the Camp Chairman for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

The police said investigations were ongoing to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.

Many residents in the IDP have expressed shock over the incident while also grieving over the death of her newborn.
