Two women have been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged stealing and conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.

The defendants, Sule Joy, 32, and Omowumi Temilade, 22, whose addresses were not provided, were brought before the court yesterday on a three-count charge bordering on stealing and breach of peace.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the police prosecutor, ASP Olasunkanmi Bamikole, told the court that the offences were committed between August 2025 and May 10, 2026.

Bamikole said the incidents occurred at Dalimore Junction in Ado-Ekiti, where both defendants were employed by the complainant as sales girls.

He alleged that Joy dishonestly converted N804,210 from cloth sales proceeds belonging to Mrs Omolara Akanbi and failed to remit it.

According to the prosecutor, Temilade also allegedly diverted N408,610 from the complainant’s cloth sales proceeds without proper remittance.

Bamikole further alleged that both defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to provoke public disturbance and breach the peace.

He said, “The offences contravened Sections 302 and 181(1)(d) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021.”

The prosecutor urged the court to grant an adjournment, stating that additional time was needed to review the case file.

He also informed the court that the witnesses would be presented when the matter comes up for substantive hearing.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges brought against them before the court.

The counsel to the defendants, Mrs Joy Egbuson, appealed for bail, assuring the court her clients would not abscond.

She said, “The defendants are ready to face trial and will not jump bail if granted.”

Chief Magistrate Bankole Oluwasanmi granted each defendant bail in the sum of N80,000 with one surety each.

The magistrate subsequently adjourned the matter to July 13 for hearing.
