One Safiyanu Dalhatu, a 20-year-old resident of Abujan-Kwata of the Bauchi metropolis allegedly hit his mother, Salma Abdullahi, 40, with a heavy pestle fracturing her arms leading to her death.

Confirming the incident on Tuesday morning, Spokesperson of Bauchi State Police Command, SP Ahmed Wakil said Safiyanu was accused of attacking his mother with a heavy pestle, resulting in fractures to both of her hands as well as other bodily injuries.

SP Wakil said the victim died despite attempts by police personnel to rescue her life at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital Bauchi where she was later pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

“Initial investigations suggest that the altercation between the suspect and his biological mother precipitated the assault.

“The suspect has been apprehended, and the pestle used in the incident has been recovered and documented as exhibits,” he said.
