A coalition of the people of Kontagora, Mariga, Mashegu and Wushishi federal constituency has resolved to zone the 2027 member of the House of Representatives to the Mashegu local government.
The secretary of the coalition, Comrade Aliyu Jibrin Matene, disclosed this at a news conference in Minna yesterday. He said the decision was due to the marginalsiation of the local government area for over 25 years.
He said the coalition, consisting of youths, women, elders and prominent stakeholders, insisted that Mashegu council, which has been marginalised since 1999 to date, should be given a chance in 2027
Consequently, Matene said the coalition had advised the current member representing the federal constituency at the National Assembly, Abdullahi Idris, from Kontogora, to step aside for proper zoning after serving five consecutive terms.
While applauding the lawmaker for his outstanding representation at the National Assembly and impactful programmes in the area, the coalition called for a shift of the seat to Mashegu to ensure inclusiveness.
“We are united and speaking with one voice to sustain the zoning formula for peaceful political arrangement initiated by our fathers to the benefit of all, which many have benefitted from except for Mashegu local government area,” Mantene stated.
He revealed that after a decisive stakeholders’ meeting had resolved to nominate Alhaji Mohammed Rabiu Daja (Dokajin Kontagora) as the sole candidate to represent the constituency at the House of Representatives come 2027, “in the spirit of peace, fairness, justice, unity, inclusivity, transparency and political balance in the local government.”
