Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a coalition of civil society organisations in Kosofe local government area has called for performance-driven governance and informed electoral choices.
It described former local council chairman Dele Oshinowo as a leading contender for federal representation.
According to a statement jointly signed by co-convener, Centre For Human and Socio-economic Rights (CHRS), Comrade Alex Omotehinse and Comrade Waheed Odunuga of Joint Action for Good Governance (JAGG), they took the position following a rigorous, evidence-based assessment of governance outcomes across the constituency.
They noted that the engagement formed part of a broader effort to institutionalise accountability and strengthen participatory democracy in the Kosofe Federal Constituency, adding that leadership selection must be guided by measurable performance, administrative competence and a demonstrable commitment to public welfare.
The coalition also highlighted some of Oshinowo’s achievements during his tenure from 2017 to 2025, including structured economic growth and housing initiatives, improvements to the extensive road network, the construction of schools, and the strengthening of primary health care.
The groups applauded the healthcare initiative, including the provision of free healthcare to over 1,000 patients in the Kosofe Local Government Area.
Other achievements highlighted are the expansion of administrative and legislative infrastructure, alongside modern market development to boost economic activity, implementation of housing and economic initiatives contributing to job creation and increased internally generated revenue, delivery of multi-community industrial boreholes, improving access to clean water and public health conditions, youth empowerment initiatives, to mention a few.
