Former Anambra State governor and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has cautioned electoral officials against failing to properly count votes in the 2027 general election, warning that there would be repercussions for such actions.

Obi issued the warning while addressing supporters in Akwa Ibom State, where he stressed the need for active voter participation and strict adherence to electoral accountability.

“In the upcoming election in 2027, anybody who refuses to count our vote, we will count the person join. Anybody who refused to count our votes in 2027, we will count him,” he said.

The gathering ended with renewed calls for citizens and political stakeholders to work toward a credible, transparent, and peaceful electoral process ahead of 2027.

Obi had previously exited the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following disputes over its presidential nomination process ahead of the 2023 elections

He later joined the Labour Party (LP) and contested the 2023 presidential poll on its platform, a campaign that attracted nationwide attention, particularly among young voters, for its strong emphasis on transparency and accountability.

Analysts noted that Obi’s experience in the 2023 elections has continued to influence his advocacy for electoral integrity and the accurate counting of votes as the 2027 polls approach.

In December 2025, Obi formally aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), underscoring his ongoing engagement in national politics and his intention to remain active in future elections under a new party platform.
