2027: Internal Party Crisis Weakening PDP, Positioning APC Ahead, Kaduna Group Warns

The Coalition for Kaduna Political Groups (KPG) has expressed concern over the internal crisis ravaging the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and warned it may affect outcome of 2027 election.

The group in a statement said the internal struggles, leadership crises, erosion of trust, and divisions within the PDP have raised significant questions about its viability as a credible opposition party.

The statement jointly signed by the Convener Ibrahim Murtala Kachia, Co-Convener Solomon Jacob Maiyaki, PRO Dr. Victor Bobai and the Secretary General Mrs Daniel Blessing said recent developments in Kaduna, particularly in Southern Kaduna, have underscored the growing disillusionment with the PDP.

The group lamented that the departure of prominent figures and their supporters from the party highlights an urgent need for reevaluation.

“The PDP’s failure to present a unified front, effectively address internal conflicts, and provide tangible benefits to its supporters has contributed to a decline in its popularity.

In contrast, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has exhibited a more cohesive internal structure, demonstrating an ability to respond effectively to the nation’s challenges,” it said.

They highlighted the exit of Senator Shehu Sani along with 10,000 supporters, as an alarming sign of dissatisfaction prompting political migration towards the APC.

They warned “the political landscape in Southern Kaduna may soon witness figures like Senator Danjuma Laah, Engr. Andrew Yakubu, Joseph Gumbari, and thousands of their supporters reconsidering their allegiances.

This collective exodus reflects a broader sentiment: the PDP, once regarded as a stronghold of political power, now struggles to deliver tangible benefits to its supporters. The focus on party leadership without the promise of influencing governance, especially regarding crucial positions like the governorship, raises pertinent questions about loyalty to a party that increasingly appears ineffective. The message is clear: the status quo is no longer viable”.

The group observed that if a party cannot present a unified front, it undermines its ability to articulate a compelling alternative to the electorate, leaving voters skeptical of a party incapable of resolving its own conflicts.

“The ongoing disunity within the PDP creates a paradox. While the party calls for solidarity from its supporters, its failure to present a cohesive agenda breeds disenchantment. Without a unified approach to governance and political outreach, the PDP risks alienating those it seeks to mobilize,” it added.

The group therefore, called on the leadership of the PDP to embrace accountability and inclusivity “A party aspiring to be a credible opposition must confront its past with humility, addressing its missteps transparently. If the PDP can successfully cultivate a culture of responsibility, it may begin to rebuild the connection with the electorate that has diminished over time,”.

They added “For Southern Kaduna, this recalibration signifies an urgent need to embrace the APC, aligning with the administration of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani. Engaging with a party that prioritizes progress could mark the difference between continued marginalization and genuine development for the region”.

They however, reiterated “for the people of Southern Kaduna, the decision to remain loyal to the PDP should not be dictated by sentiment; rather, the focus must shift toward tangible benefits. Embracing change and aligning with parties that offer genuine governance opportunities may very well determine the future of political representation in the region. It is time for the vibrant youth and women of Southern Kaduna to strategize collectively, strengthening the APC as a vehicle for real progress and development”.
