Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State has inaugurated the Kwara Central APC Elders Caucus. It charged the members to ensure cohesion and unity among party members in Kwara Central Senatorial District.
The inauguration of the caucus was presided over by the state secretary of APC, Mustapha Salman Isowo.
The event witnessed the inauguration of the interim executives and members of the steering committee of the Elders Caucus.
The oath of office and allegiance was performed by the state APC legal adviser, Lawal Jimoh.
The interim executive committee has Mustapha Kobe as chairman, Razaq Lawal as coordinator and Gani Alawo as secretary .
Other members of the interim executive are Sulaiman Cementi ( public relations officer) and Abdulrauf Sanni(welfare officer).
In his acceptance speech, the chairman of the interim executive of Kwara Central APC Elders Caucus,Kobe, pledged their allegiance to the state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
He called for unity amongst members, urging them to always keep the Elders Caucus abreast of development in their localities.
The coordinator of the Elders Caucus, Lawal harped on the need for party members across the state to wait for the governor to give directive on who would be the gubernatorial candidate of the party in the forthcoming 2027 general elections.
“We should reinforce the unity within the party. We have only one leader in person of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
On the issue of the candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election, we should wait for the governor to give directive.
“Members should return to their wards, local governments and tell members that they need to wait for the governor ‘s directive. They should stop promoting any aspirant until we hear from the governor,” Lawal said.
He urged party members to be wary of name droppers camouflaging as leaders, adding that ” members of the newly inaugurated Kwara Central APC Elders Caucus are the legally recognised leaders of the APC across Kwara Central senatorial district.”
In his remarks, the state secretary of APC, Isowo, said the inauguration of the Elders Caucus received the blessing of the party leadership ably led by the chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi.
He said the chairman was delighted that the event was held at the party secretariat, even as he promised to replicate it in Kwara south.
