Traditional rulers in Akure North local government area of Ondo State have called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone the 2027 House of Representatives ticket to the council.

The monarchs said the demand was anchored on equity, fairness and democratic inclusion, warning that continued exclusion of Akure North could trigger discontent among party loyalists.

In a statement signed on behalf of the royal fathers by the Ogbolu of Itaogbolu and Chairman, Council of Obas, Akure North Local Government, Oba Faborode Idowu, the traditional rulers described the call as a necessity rather than a favour.

They reaffirmed their support for Tinubu, pledging readiness to mobilise for his re-election, but stressed that loyalty must be reciprocated with fair political representation.

“As custo “ians of peace, we remain committed to maintaining stability; however, we must state that continued exclusion will weaken trust in party structures and alienate a critical voting population,” the statement read.

The monarchs also raised concerns about what they termed an imbalance in the current political arrangement, noting that Akure South currently holds both the senatorial seat and the House of Representatives seat.

They argued that such a concentration of political power in a single local government was neither equitable nor sustainable in a democratic system.

The royal fathers insisted that Akure North, which has 12 wards and a growing population, deserved the opportunity to produce the next member of the House of Representatives.

They highlighted the council’s positions to the constituency, including its role as an agricultural hub and its strategic importance along the Akure Airport corridor.

Despite these contributions, the monarchs lamented that the area had remained politically sidelined, describing the situation as systemic marginalisation. Therefore, they urged party leaders to act swiftly to address the imbalance and ensure justice ahead of the 2027 general elections.
